Swamp Rat RatManDu Review

Posted on 04/17/2012 by Jon

I decided to buy this knife after reading lots and lots of reviews. It seemed like a compromise between something really small, and something way too big. This is basically the perfect size - if you were to only take one knife with you, this would be it.

I'll attest to the claims that this is a really strong strong knife - it's a beast. The SR-101 metal is all it's cracked up to be and more. Maybe it's not as strong as INFI, but you won't really notice the difference.

Everytime I've been camping, I tried putting it through as much (legit) abuse as possible, just to see what it's made of. I'm talking about regular, everyday chopping - not trying to cut through rock or metals. I don't believe in putting the knives through unlikely stress tests, but I'll use it for everything that comes my way in real life situations.

Size, Weight and Cost

For a mere price of $138 (MSRP), you get a hell of a knife - something you can depend on forever.

The blade length is 5 3/8", which is just about perfect for anything from skinning, to chopping, and even carving. With a weight of 11 oz, this gives you just enough for decent chopping power.

Ergonomics

This knife has one of the nicest looking handles, and it's really comfy. I was able to keep chopping for hours with that thing, and it didn't really bug my hand.

I ended up buying a kydex sheath for carrying it, which attached right to my belt. If you're interested in getting one, I'd recommend finding someone on bladeforums.com - there are plenty of guys there that can make some impressive sheaths.

The blade has been submitted and is pending approval.
